Sheryl McCarthy’s journalism career has included positions at The Boston Globe, The Baltimore Evening Sun, The New York Daily News, where she was a reporter and education editor, ABC News, where she was a national correspondent, and Newsday and New York Newsday, where she was a senior writer and longtime columnist.  She received the Meyer Berger Award from Columbia University for her columns about New York City, two awards from the Education Writers Association, the “Maggie” Award from the Planned Parenthood Federation of America for her work on women’s reproductive issues, and was a Nieman Fellow at Harvard.

A former trustee of Mount Holyoke College, she is currently Distinguished Lecturer in Journalism at Queens College of the City University of New York , and is on the board of contributors of USA TODAY.
